Top 5: Expensive Collector’s and Limited Editions

Video games over recent years have released multiple variants to suit various budgets. You can purchase just the game or one of the more expensive Collector’s and Limited Editions which contain a variety of extra trinkets. Believe it or not, there are some editions which are so ridiculously high that only that only serious collectors with a big wallet will own. Here are my top five expensive collector and limited editions.

5 – Borderlands: The Handsome Collection – Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition ($400)

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection initially released in 2015 and brought together Borderlands 2, The Pre-Sequel and all associated DLC’s. On top of this basic version of the game was the Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition which, as you may have guessed, contained a remote control Claptrap of your very own.

What’s in the Box?

  • Remote control Claptrap which can be controlled using the app and has a working camera for the eye
  • Collectible Steelbook Case featuring special artwork
  • Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and all associated DLC
  • 12 Exclusive Lithographs featuring all the vault hunters from the handsome collection

4 – Resident Evil 6 – Japanese Premium Edition (105,000 yen)

The West received various versions of Capcom’s 2012 zombie holy grail Resident Evil 6, but it is the Japanese Premium Edition which wows most people. If you are bored with the usual plastic and paper trinkets, Capcom has included something premium and wearable in this edition.

What’s in the Box?

  • Resident Evil 6 plus four different cover variants including Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield
  • Replica of Leon S. Kennedy’s leather jacket in four standard sizes (S-XL)

3 – Grid 2 – Mono Edition (£125,000)

The Grid 2 Mono Edition was only available in the United Kingdom and contained several items. If you weren’t going to do any racing on the newly released Grid 2, you would be (though not advised on UK roads) in one of the items which came part of the edition. Fun fact: someone did buy this edition and that someone was Deadmau5.

What’s in the Box?

  • GRID 2 for PlayStation 3 including bespoke artwork
  • BAC Mono in exclusive GRID 2 livery
  • A day at the BAC factory which includes a factory tour and time spent with technicians to customise the BAC Mono for size and specifications
  • A GRID 2: Mono Edition branded Bell Racing helmet
  • Race suit, boots & gloves all made to measure in BAC Mono and GRID 2 branding
  • A PlayStation 3 console

2 – Dying Light –  My Apocalypse Edition (£250,000)

Ever wanted your own zombie-proof shelter? A human-sized Volatile to keep your family and friends at bay – for good? These and more were available to the one lucky person who could stump up enough cash to buy the “My Apocalypse Edition” for Dying Light. This edition was announced after the release of the game so many speculated it might have been a PR stunt to boost sales.

What’s in the Box?

  • Custom built Dying Light Zombie Home by Tiger Log Cabins
  • Zombie avoidance parkour lessons with Ampisound, the team behind the internet smash Dying Light Parkour POV video
  • Be The Zombie match with devs where you win so you can brag to your friends how “leet” you are

1 – Saints Row IV – Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition ($1,000,000)

Exclusive to video game retailer GAME in the United Kingdom, the Wad Wad Edition is the most expensive edition of a game released so far. During a livestream, a QA tester commented that the edition was a PR stunt but that was later refuted in the same stream by Steve Jaros who said it was real. Either way – this is ridiculous!

  • Saints Row IV: Commander in Chief Edition
  • A full-sized replica Dubstep Gun
  • A full day of spy training
  • A trip to space with Virgin Galactic
  • One year’s membership of E25 Super Car Club and a Lamborghini Gallardo to make it worthwhile
  • Plastic Surgery of the purchaser’s choice
  • A shopping spree with a personal shopper to create the ultimate Planet Saints capsule wardrobe
  • 7 nights for two at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington
