Friday the 13th: The Game: Jason Voorhees will be unleashed
If you’re a fan of horror, specifically the classics, I’ve got a treat for you. In November last year I wrote about ‘Summer Camp‘, a game which seemed to be heavily based on the horror classic ‘Friday the 13th‘. In recent months the team at Gun Media have managed to secure the Friday the 13th licence and are now creating a game set in the universe of killer Jason Voorhees. This game, which I will add right now looks frighteningly amazing, is currently looking for backers on Kickstarter.
“But what makes this so special?” I hear you say – movie and television games haven’t exactly been memorable throughout the years. Friday the 13th: The Game is a third-person, asymmetrical multiplayer title where one player controls Jason Voorhees while the remaining seven control camp counsellors trying to survive the night. As Jason you get to stalk your prey and creatively kill in both new and familiar ways. The game has been balanced so that both sides have an equal chance of surviving, but you’re going to have to be creative and daring as a camp counsellor to go all night. Jason, whilst he can not be killed in the usual sense, can be stopped in his tracks so long as you utilise the tools and opportunities the developers give you.
The team at Gun Media have even taken the motion capture to the next level, with Kane Hodder returning to the role of Jason, part of the reason why the Kickstarter has been setup.
Kane will be doing all the motion capture as well as directing his team of stunt men to help us capture the most brutal animations possible – professionals that can take the physical abuse that Kane will put them through. Once again, it HAS to be done right. No exceptions. That’s part of why we need your help.
Whilst the game will primarily be multiplayer, the team have teased of a single player. Here you will step into the shoes of the famous killer and have as much bloody fun as you like.
To that end, the proposed single player portion will give you the Jason experience you’ve never had; direct through his eyes. We’ll be offering several ‘scenarios’ based off classic movie scenes from the franchise as you stalk and kill each and every cocounsellor from a first person perspective. Not to leave the counsellors out, we’ll be adding several counsellor scenarios where you’ll have to confront your fears and take on Jason directly, especially in compromising situations! We are not going for anything less than a Mature Rating on this; the franchise deserves it! These scenarios might also make their way to VR, and would bring an entirely new perspective to the slasher genre!
Famous names such as Sean S. Cunningham the creator of Friday the 13th, Tom Savini an award winning make-up artist and Harry Manfredini who was responsible for original Friday the 13th score and soundtrack are all involved, making this possibly the only officially official video game to the movie franchise. Who wouldn’t want to play that?!
Friday the 13th: The Game wont be released until 20156, but already my brain is ticking over just thinking about how much fun I’m going to have running around in Jason’s world and more importantly running around as the main man. Stalking. Killing. Enjoying every moment.
If you want to pledge some cash to the guys over at Gun Media you can, the Kickstarter will be running until 14 November 2015.
